The blues of sea and sky and the pinks and greens of summer garden flowers, encourage me to work with bright, strong combinations of colour. I am inspired by how nature changes and regenerates itself, so I draw linear drawings of plants, and reuse older fabric along side the new. Using weave, dye, stitch, and screen print, I love the idea that my bespoke deckchair slings and seat coverings and footstools are created to be looked at, sat upon, and give visual and tactile impact whether inside or out. Alongside knit and velvets I often leave frayed edges, loose threads, and cascading fabric lengths to reflect the natural tangled growth of plants, these move in the wind and catch the light the essence of sea and summer breezes.  All chair slings, coverings and textiles are individually constructed.

I propose a seat planted with climbing, possibly fruiting plants that entwine and reflect the masses of growth and entwinement I saw on our visit. This seating arrangement would stay as long as it lasted and would regenerate itself every year as plants do. Alongside this would be ( or someplace else ) a flower bed, literally a bed, with flowers planted in it, again this would be entwined year after year to produce a permanent bed shaped growth? Plantation. The links with war, growing and rebuilding are simply reflected in the fact that plants want to live and will regenerate, reproduce and rebuild, just as we as PEOPLE STRIVE TO DO.
