Prime Projects is a new initiative set up by artists Tammy Woodrow and Karen Stephenson for mid-career woman artists who have conceptual/abstract practices and who are based in Warwickshire. It is well researched that men rule the art market. Woman artists’ journeys into a professional career are often not straightforward; they will take time off to have children and raise a family. Prime Projects aims to push the representation and recognition of local woman artists into new territories. Themes that are tackled are amongst others feminism, womanhood, politics, diversity, mental health, race, environment and form. Prime Projects wants to create platforms for these artists to exhibit their work and to get exposure and acknowledgement for their conceptual practices. It is extremely difficult for conceptual artists to make a living out of their practice. Prime Projects’ support can consist of organising collaborative shows, selling opportunities, workshops, symposia and other events.
